Roger lives in Cape Town, South Africa and is a certified Integral Empowerment Coach, Facilitator, and Enneagram Practitioner. He owns his own practice, Eagle Coaching which provides executive, leadership, educational, career, spiritual and life coaching to clients. Roger is happily married with two grown children and a beautiful grandson. Relationships are important to him, and he thrives in a world of human empowerment, leadership development, strategic thinking and action, and organizational change and transformation.

He is an avid student of life and sets a high premium on life-long learning, growth and development – for the individual, the team, the organization,and the community. He values loyalty, integrity, dialogue, collaborative partnership, being a contribution, and making a difference in the world.

As a secondary and tertiary student in the mid-1970s and 1980s, Roger was a leader and social activist in several community and faith-based organisations, working for social change and transformation in apartheid South Africa. He began his working career as a high school teacher in the early 1980s; moving on to become a researcher, tutor, mentor and lecturer at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and a community organiser of several social projects in the late 1980s. After a fulfilling lectureship in theology at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in the 1990s, he took up the stimulating and challenging role as full time organizer of the UCT Academics’ Union where he played a critical role in advising, counselling, mentoring and coaching staff in a variety of employment and human relations matters.

Roger loves the outdoors and is an enthusiastic long distance runner. He is a deeply curious person and a constant reader of books on a range of topics. He enjoys research and writing and has delivered and published research papers and chapters in books as well as contributed to newsletters and articles on a range of issues, including ethics, values, leadership, empowerment, transition, politics, and spirituality  He has participated in several academic and public seminars.

Coaching approach & methodology

As an integral empowerment coach, he values each client as a whole person within the context of her/his world of intricate human relations; someone with unique abilities, gifts, and creative potential, able to take responsibility and make choices to live a balanced, resourceful, competent, productive and abundant life.

Clients are met and engaged with in regular conversations (usually face to face or via skype); each lasting 60-90 minutes, every two to four weeks, with additional email, telephonic, and skype follow-up and support where appropriate and necessary. These are always agreed to with the client in the first (intake) session.

Coaching experience

Roger has been coaching since 2007, as part of his employment at UCT where he advised, counseled, mentored and coached academic and professional staff in matters relating to a range of employment and labour matters as well as matters related to personal & professional change and development. Since he established Eagle Coaching (his own practice) in mid-2009, he continues to coach clients from diverse backgrounds: private & corporate, secular & spiritual, and across all levels and ranks within organizations, including senior, middle and junior leaders and managers. Among Roger’s organisational clients have been Vodacom, Nedbank Investment Group, USABCO, BATSA, BAT – Lagos, AVI/National Brand Limited, Chevron SA, Engen SA (Corporate), and SEED and Dinaledi Educational Coaching (operating in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape Education sectors).

Coaching credentials

Roger has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Post-graduate Diploma in Secondary Education, and Post-graduate Diploma in Employment Law and Social Security (UCT), a Diploma in Theology (Baptist Theological Seminary – Cape Town), and a Master of Theology (Western Theological Seminary – USA).

He completed the Coaching to Excellence and Associate Coaching Courses at the Centre for Coaching (Graduate School of Business – UCT) and the advanced Professional Coaching Course at the Centre for Coaching (GSB- UCT) and New Ventures West (USA). He is a fully accredited Enneagram practitioner through Adfen International and Integrative Enneagram Solutions respectively, a  certified i3 Profiling independent consultant, and a Facilitator-in-Training with the No-Name-Initiative (NNI) which focuses on  deep democracy, transformational dialogue and active citizenship. He has completed several courses in group facilitation, building diversity, project management, negotiation and mediation, coaching and transformational dialogue.

Roger is a registered Practitioner member of the Coaches and Mentors of South Africa (COMENSA) and a former Associate member of its Western Cape Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Global Coaching Community, an Independent Associate of the Centre for Coaching at the Graduate School of Business, UCT, and on the coaching panel of AVI-NBL Limited. He is affiliated to several social media groups, including COMENSA, Coaching Leaders, the Coaching Academy, Enneagram Network, International Coach Federation, the Leadership Think Tank, New Ventures West, the Social Entrepreneurship Empowerment Network, and the South African Business Network.
